Kamwangi, KenyaRed Rabbit Coffee Co.
Located on the slopes of Mount Kenya, Kamwangi is one of three Factories managed by the New Ngariama Cooperative Society. With an average of 250 coffee trees per member, a total of 986 active members contribute cherry to Kamwangi. Once cherries are harvested, the coffee cherries are hand sorted for unripes and overripes by the farmers before processing. The cherry is removed and the coffee fermented for 24-36 hour under shade depending on the temperature . After fermentation the coffee is washed and graded by density in washing channels. They are then taken to the drying tables where they will be sun dried 12 to 20 days on African drying beds. The time depends on weather conditions. Coffee is covered in plastic during midday and at night to protect the beans from moisture and rain.
We are really excited about having a bright, juicy, fruit forward Kenyan coffee in our lineup, this coffee is no exception.
