La Colmenita, GuatemalaRed Rabbit Coffee Co.
Huehuetenango is a municipality and departmental capital of the department of Huehuetenango. It has an area of 204 square kilometers. The name of the department comes from pre-hispanic times when the municipality was known as Chinabajul, which in Mam means between steep slopes.
La Colmenita is part of an area called Buena Vista, located about 182 km north-west of Guatemala City. Francisco Cardona Martin bought Finca La Colmenita in 2002 and had the vision of producing the best quality coffees possible by planting varieties known for their excellence.
Francisco is incredibly resourceful, drying his coffee in a patio that he built on top of his house, as well as investing most of the profits from the coffee sold, on the farm. He often attends cuppings with the quality control team at Huehuetenango to develop skills and improve processes on the farm.
