Mwito, Rwanda Filter

Nestled in Rwanda’s Nyamasheke District near the shores of Lake Kivu, the Mwito Washing Station has been producing exceptional coffees since being taken over by the Rwanda Trading Company in 2017. Here, smallholder farmers cultivate Red Bourbon varietals at elevations around 1,300–1,350 meters before delivering their harvest to Mwito, where the coffee is carefully processed most often using natural methods that allow the fruit’s inherent sweetness and complexity to shine. Beyond coffee, the station plays a vital role in the local community, offering agronomy training, certification support, and even building a kindergarten for farmers’ children, ensuring that Mwito coffee is as enriching for the people who grow it as it is rewarding in the cup.
