Nestled in the Nensebo district of the West Arsi zone, Oromia, Ethiopia, the Refisa washing station serves as a hub for over 600 smallholder farmers cultivating heirloom coffee varieties such as Wolisho and Kurume at elevations ranging from 1,900 to 2,200 meters above sea level. This high-altitude region, part of the Sidama coffee-growing area, is renowned for producing some of Ethiopia's most sought-after coffees.

At the Refisa washing station, harvested cherries undergo a meticulous process: they are hand-sorted, pulped using a disc pulper, fermented for 48–72 hours, and then washed in clean water. The beans are dried on raised beds for 8–10 days, ensuring even moisture content. This careful processing results in a cup profile characterized by bright citrus notes, such as lemon and mandarin, complemented by stone fruit flavors like apricot and peach, and a lingering sweetness reminiscent of caramel. The clean and complex flavor profile reflects the dedication of the farmers and the unique terroir of the West Arsi region.
